In her recent non fiction book, Labours of Love, the Crisis of Care, prize winning author Madeleine Bunting argues that care is an essential part of being human. Receiving and giving care is a constant throughout the life course, yet our education system does nothing to promote and encourage the necessary skills and attributes: if schools are expected to inculcate a work ethic in their pupils, what would the equivalent care ethic look like? And how might this contribute to the reimagining of care so urgently needed in human relationship and in our attitudes towards the environment.
