    Open Chamber:
    Inaugural salon

    7 Oct / Music  / 7.30pm

Full Circle is delighted to host a new series of musical salons by Room7 Productions. Preview the full Autumn series, starting Autumn 2021, in this inaugural musical salon.

Kalina Georgieva and Ivan Ludlow introduce the series with a short concert, a talk and a drink. Mahler, Barber and Duparc mixed with Delta, cocktails and good conversation.

Open Chamber dares to break the formality of opera protocols, with lively discussion and revelations. Explore the composition, interpretation and presentation of great works from the classical repertoire as well as new pieces in an engaging mix.

Don't miss this musical journey to understand the masterpieces of the past and discover the repertoire of the future.

Room 7 Productions, founded by Ivan Ludlow, is an exciting new production house in Brussels challenging the state of play and reinventing opera as we know it.  Their eagerness to do things differently has pushed them to dare beyond the classic opera performances and craft new ones, while also envisaging new interactions with audiences often left to be passive spectators.

    An Island, Karen Jennings

    Thur 14th Oct / Book Club  / 7:30pm

Join our monthly gathering around a great read, along with drinks & good company

"...a small but powerful book, compounding merciless political critique and allegory rendered in tender prose." - The Guardian

A young refugee washes up unconscious on the beach of a small island inhabited by no one but Samuel, an old lighthouse keeper. Unsettled, Samuel is soon swept up in memories of his former life on the mainland: a life that saw his country suffer, then fight for independence, only to fall to a cruel dictator; he recalls his own part in its history.

South African author Karen Jennings has created a compact, powerful fable that exposes several of the modern world's greatest crises. Longlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize, it’s a welcome surprise on a longlist which favoured established authors.

Come discuss this powerful novel at our first Book Club of the year.

Reviews from previous productions of Vincent River

“.....holds the audience in a tight grip for the entire 90-minutes. It deliberately never lets us relax, so that in the end when the penny finally drops you're left speechless - you sit there not knowing whether to clap, cry or crumble. This is a rare piece of theatre - simply beautiful." — Broadwayworld

”Ridley scatters poetic fragments throughout, like a trail of bread-crumbs leading to the supposed safety of home...a crucible in which everyday secrets smoulder.” — The Times

“Blazing... even as the play emphasises how much of life is wasted, there is something exhilarating here.” — The Sunday Times

“Philip Ridley’s devastating two-hander has lost none of its glinting edge ...his writing is among the very sharpest in British theatre.” — Time Out

“Terrific...molten grief and self-recrimination...never lurid or gratuitous.”

    — The Independent

“Finely shaded study of grief...you can’t take your eyes off it.” — Sunday Express

Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart star in this glorious revival of Harold Pinter’s classic comedy, filmed live on stage from the West End in London.

One summer's evening, two ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, meet in a Hampstead pub and continue their drinking into the night at Hirst's stately house nearby. As the pair become increasingly inebriated, and their stories increasingly unbelievable, the lively conversation soon turns into a revealing power game, further complicated by the return home of two sinister younger men.

See Ian McKellen’s ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

Captured live from London’s West End in 2018, Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.
