Should we invest more in music and arts education?

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

More and more nowadays, students find themselves pushed into choosing academic or practical studies like business and law at university – or find themsleves forced into choosing them because of lack of grants and funding.

Why is it that governments spend so much money investing in education in subjects such as maths and science but practically ignore art, theatre, music, and dance?

Are the arts just a fun distraction? Something to do in your sparetime when you’ve finished your “proper” studies? Or do they have a value in themselves, developing alternative skills such as teamwork, creativity, communication and presentation?

By supporting more young people studying arts – could we possibly find different ways of solving the problems of today?
